Ashfield Catholic and Community Club

Club Ashfield: About Us

History

In the early 1960's, funding for the local catholic schools was scarce. For this reason the then Parish Priest of Ashfield Fr J K O' Reilly urged the local catholic community to form a club to support the local catholic schools. Such support led to the incorporation of the Ashfield Catholic Club in 1963.

Between 1963 and 1966, 7 Charlotte Street which was an engineering workshop was transformed into the original Ashfield Catholic Club.

The Club officially opened on the 15th of October 1966 with approximately 250 members.

Since then there have been three major infrastructure developments, the first in 1968, the second in 1983 and the final development in the late 1980's.

After trading for only 21 months they purchased 5 Charlotte Street Ashfield with plans to extend. On the 13th of September 1968, the wheels where in motion with the demolition of 5 Charlotte Street. With the help of the members a new three-storey club was built.

The new building consisted of an auditorium to seat 400 members, billiard room, games room and bar service available on all floors.

In 1982, the Club acquired the fruit shop next door and extended to accommodate members and meet their catering demands, which had understandably changed over the years.

The latest development in the late 1980's saw the first floor revert to a bistro and function room. The final development was completed in October 1990, which resulted in the club you see today.
